Summary
Welcome to the mystery of Kusatsu Onsen. Kusatsu Onsen boasts Japan’s largest gush of hot spring water, more than 32,000 liters per minute, or about 230,000 per day. The first stop is Yubatake. The sight of the steam rising from the hot springs is overwhelming, like a living work of art. This is the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen, where the components of the hot spring water are cooled and the hot spring flowers are collected. Next is the “Yumomi Show” held in the bathtub, where the sound of the hot water being stirred and danced to the accompaniment of the “Yumomi Song” captivates the audience. This traditional method of bringing the hot spring water to the proper temperature seems to be steeped in history.
Visitors can also relax in nature in the spacious open-air baths at the Nishi-no-kawahara Open-air Baths. Finally, returning to Yubatake at night, the illuminated scenery creates a fantastic atmosphere.
